At Pawsitive Dog Training College, we understand that choosing a training program for your dog is an important decision, and it often comes with many questions and concerns. Our aim is to provide clarity and peace of mind by addressing some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. If you donāt see the answer you're looking for, please feel free to reach outāweāre here to help!
Q: Will my dog feel abandoned and forget me?
A: Itās natural to wonder how your dog will react to being away from you. While some dogs may initially feel unsure in a new environment, this typically lasts only a day or two. We spend extra time with dogs that need reassurance, and if necessary, weāll bring them into our home to help them settle. Dogs always remember their familiesātheir love for you wonāt change.
Q: Will I be able to visit my dog during their stay at Pawsitive?
A: Yes! Visits can be scheduled with your trainer. If visiting in person isnāt possible, we offer video calls. We also provide daily updates on your dogās progress.
Q: Will my dog listen to me when he/she is taught commands by someone else?
A: Absolutely! There may be a short transition period, but we provide tools and homework to support the handover. Your consistency is key. Our job is to lay the foundationāyou build on it at home.
Q: Will my dog be hurt (hit, shocked, etc.) while they are with you?
A: No! We do not use any harsh or aversive methods. We practice balanced trainingāpositive reinforcement plus humane consequences like time-outs or redirection. Trust and safety are non-negotiable in our process.
Q: How do I know which training program is right for my dog?
A: We assess each dog individually and recommend the most suitable program based on your goals and your dogās behavior. Contact us for guidance.
Q: Can my dogās behavioral issues be fully resolved through inboard training?
A: Inboard training is a powerful foundation, but ongoing consistency from the owner is essential. Some cases need continued work post-program for long-term success.
Q: Do you provide training for aggressive dogs?
A: Yes, but an initial assessment is required before enrollment. Not all cases are the same. Fees may vary depending on the severity and requirements.
Q: My dog has separation anxiety. Can you help?
A: Yes. We focus on confidence-building, emotional regulation, and coping strategies to manage anxiety during our structured programs.
Q: Do you offer follow-up lessons after inboard training?
A: Yes. Clients receive up to two 1-hour follow-up sessions at our premises within 3 months of graduation. At-home sessions are available for an additional fee.
Q: Do you offer training at my home?
A: Yes, in the Pretoria and Hartbeespoort areas. Home-based training is ideal for environment-specific behaviors. Contact Charlene for more info.
